Integrating ODBC

with

WordPerfect for Windows

Versions 6.1 and 7

Geoff Lane BSc(Hons) MISTC

Overview

I wrote this paper for users of WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows and WordPerfect 7.0 for Windows. It describes some ways in which you can integrate the WordPerfect software with any database that can act as an ODBC data source. This paper assumes that the reader has some familiarity with WordPerfect macro programming.

I've given a sample application (an address book for mail-merge). However, this application is for illustrative purposes only. I've used Microsoft Access as the data source for all examples. This is because, unlike Paradox, Access keeps all its data, forms, queries, etc. in one file. If you don't have Microsoft Access please don't panic. One of the purposes of this paper is to demonstrate that WordPerfect 6.1 and above can be used as a database management tool, albeit an extremely rudimentary one.
